When can I apply for electronic monitoring?
You can apply if the sentence is up to 18 months of imprisonment, you have a fixed place of residence, and the adults living with you consent. The court also assesses whether security considerations allow it.
My driving licence was taken for drink-driving. What now?
Much depends on the alcohol level: up to 0.5‰ it is a misdemeanour, above that a crime. In both cases act quickly: decisions about conditional discontinuation or an alcohol interlock are made early in the proceedings.
Can I have a lawyer at my first police interrogation?
Yes, and it is the best moment to use that right. Counsel present at the first interrogation prevents mistakes that cannot be undone later. If you are a foreigner, you are also entitled to an interpreter.
Can my family hire you on my behalf?
Yes: in practice, relatives often initiate contact when the suspect is detained. A close relative can sign the defence agreement, and I then act immediately, including visits in custody.
